Peter Dasent was born in Wellington, New Zealand. He was educated at Wellington College and Victoria University of Wellington. He paid his musical dues on the road with semi-legendary New Zealand pop bands Spats and The Crocodiles, which both included musical mentor Bruno Lawrence.

Over the last fifteen years, Peter has built an extensive list of feature film and television composition credits including Heavenly Creatures, Not Fourteen Again, Channeling Baby, Braindead, Meet The Feebles, Search for Treasure Island, Halifax fp, Magic Mountain, Cubby House and the children's series Return of the Artful Dodger, as well as composing and performing the music for cult ABC programs Playschool and Bananas in Pyjamas. He recently won a Screen Composers Guild award for the theme to Gloria's House.

Peter was the musical director for a New Zealand theatre production of Underwater Melon Man (a CD/picture book project for which he composed the songs, featuring performers such as Neil Finn, Tim Finn, Vince Jones, Kate Ceberano, Jenny Morris and Renee Geyer, among others), which received rave reviews at the New Zealand International Arts Festival. Also, Peter's tribute to Nino Rota “Bravo Nino Rota”, recorded with his band the Umbrellas received critical acclaim and widespread airplay throughout Australia.

Peter Dasent's current projects include completing the music for an album of solo piano music, recording a CD of original songs with singer Tony Backhouse and continuing his work as MD/pianist for the ABC's “PlaySchool”. He also recently completed production of a CD of his kids' songs for PlaySchool presenter Justine Clarke.
